It’s National Tell a Joke Day, and we want to make the case for humor as an actual skill on calls, not just a nice-to-have.
A well-timed joke does something specific: it lowers the stakes and builds trust fast. Callers who are nervous, especially first-timers, relax noticeably once there’s been a genuine laugh between you. Humor signals that you’re a real person having a real interaction, not running through a script.
The best phone sex humor tends to be dry, a little self-aware, and never at the caller’s expense. A joke that makes fun of the situation you’re both in, gently, tends to land better than anything that could feel like mockery. Timing matters more than the joke itself. A good line dropped at exactly the right pause can do more than a whole minute of buildup.
If humor isn’t naturally part of your calls, today’s a good day to try one small joke and see how it lands. Worst case, nobody laughs and you move on. Best case, you’ve just made yourself a lot more memorable.
