UK Condom Sales Surge After COVID-19 Lockdown Ends

UK citizens only had one thing in mind after lockdown ended: fucking. Condom sales in the UK surged following the end of a national lockdown to limit the spread of COVID-19. Durex saw more than a 10 percent jump in sales over the summer, after pandemic restrictions were eased back and frisky singles were able to hook up again.

At the height of coronavirus lockdowns in the spring, Durex’s parent company Reckitt Benckiser reported a loss in sales because stay-at-home orders took their “toll on the number of intimate occasions” available for those outside of long-term relationships. Reckitt’s chief executive said following a “more challenging first half of the year,” a relaxing of social distancing mandates led to “improved demand” for products like Durex, which has enjoyed a “double-digit growth in revenue.” “This has been particularly pronounced in markets where the rate of pandemic infection has materially improved,” he said.

It seems there’s some merit to the deep-voiced seducer (cue: Barry White). Researchers recently discovered that men blessed with a seductive baritone are more likely to woo women and cheat on their partner. While females largely find lower acoustics more arousing, masculine-sounding men are also “more likely to engage in infidelity” than “feminine men,” researchers said.

The scientists reached their conclusion by studying a group of straight students who were involved in brief flings. While they found no strong correlation between female voices and philandering, men with deeper timbres were more likely to fool around with different women. The study concluded that these low-octave lovers “enhance their status among other men or their attractiveness to women, thereby increasing their chances of obtaining more or higher-quality partners.”

The survey of 2,987 Brits asked respondents to list their top 10 sexual fantasies—and blindfolds and threesomes were the most popular. Sex in a Jacuzzi also ranked highly among women with 31 per cent favoring the kink.

The fantasies didn’t just take place at home, with 26 per cent of women also saying that they’ve fantasized about having sex in an elevator. After threesomes, the second most popular fetish that men wanted to try was video call sex. Other kinky sex ranked highly, including role play, bondage, and anal sex.
