Gwyneth Paltrow’s Goop launched its first self-branded vibrator on Valentine’s Day—it sold out in a single day. “Fifty Shades of Grey” actress Dakota Johnson announced a similar new gig as the co-creative director of “modern intimacy” brand Maude. Even pop stars are feeling the buzz: Lily Allen partnered with German brand Womanizer on her very own vibrator, dubbed the “Liberty”—“the perfect duet partner to help you hit the high notes at home and away,” according to the product description. “Sex toys have become mainstream enough that a celebrity entering this field is considered edgy instead of being blacklisted,” says the author of “Buzz: A Stimulating History of the Sex Toy.”

Denmark Launches Sexual Consent App

A new sexual consent app in Denmark allows lovers to grant permission to fuck from their smartphones. The press of a button on the iConsent app gives “one intercourse” which is valid for 24 hours and can be withdrawn at any time. Developers say the app gives people the “opportunity to document your consent to intercourse” by allowing lovers to send and receive requests via their phones.

But they add that “consent in the app can never stand alone, and that it is up to you and the other party to secure your consent before, during and after intercourse.” The app has been met with a cool reception in Denmark, where one newspaper called it “as unsexy as another corona press conference.” A critic compared the app to “transferring money,” adding: “Now we’ve also created an app that removes any kind of human warmth from something we still need to be together for: sex.”

Sex Toy Innovator Returns To CES With New Vibrators Featuring Heating Technology

Lora DiCarlo has returned to the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) with three new sex toys that feature warming technology to simulate body temperatures and relax muscles. The vibrators—called “Drift,” “Tilt,” and “Sway”—all boast an innovative nylon-based thermal conductive polymer, which is said to be 15 to 20 times more efficient at providing internal heating than those currently on the market. Lora DiCarlo received an “Innovation Award” in 2019, but was then disqualified because CES organizers deemed the firm’s Ose massager as “immoral, obscene, indecent and profane.”

Despite the controversy, Lora DiCarlo returned to the tech conference with twice as many sex toys. The Drift is a warming bullet vibrator with an ergonomic design that pinpoints certain areas, like the clitoris, with “powerful, intense, rumbly vibrations for deep internal and external pleasure,” reads Lora DiCarlo’s website. The Tilt and Sway simultaneously stimulate the G-spot and clitoris, or the P-spot and perineum, has seven intensity settings and three vibration patterns, and can “quickly” reach 104 degrees Fahrenheit (40C).

The Soraya Wave was adapted from the Soraya 2 model, a spokesman from LELO says. “The thinking behind reengineering the product with our WaveMotion technology was to appeal to a wider audience of users by offering a similar product that provided a different sensation,” they said.

BuzzFeed Created A Sex Toy Called AirVibe

BuzzFeed and Bellesa, the combination porn site and sex toy shop, announced their collaboration on a sex toy: the BuzzFeed AirVibe. It’s a dual clit sucker and G-spot stimulator that folds up into a clamshell case, which doubles as a charging unit. The AirVibe, which retails for $59, is a part of BuzzFeed’s initiative to “become an authority of sexual wellness”—and it sold out in 72 hours.

A publisher collaborating with a sex toy manufacturer has never been done before, and the CEO of Bellesa said reception for AirVibe has been overwhelmingly positive. “We’re extremely excited about the early indicators here. Big things ahead for the Bellesa X BuzzFeed partnership,” she said. AirWave has a 4.95/5 star rating on its website based on 44 reviews; the site also boasts that the toy gave “our [Bellesa’s] shortest orgasm time ever.”
