Couples are splitting up\u2014but only at bedtime<\/a>. \u201cNow, there\u2019s more physical touch and closeness between us during the day because we\u2019re not grumpy from trying to sleep together at night,\u201d says a couple who are among the\u00a0growing number of married couples opting for a \u201csleep divorce.\u201d \u201cSex isn\u2019t just in this one shared bedroom anymore,\u201d the couple says, adding, \u201cIt can be in his room, my room or wherever we want it to be.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A new survey conducted by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine found that one in three couples in the US have chosen to sleep separately from their spouses in effort to improve their sex lives. \u201cCouples who have a sleep divorce can see it as an opportunity to create some playfulness around intimacy,\u201d a sexpert said. \u201cThey can flirt more during the day, take turns visiting each other\u2019s room [for sex] and really become intentional about making that physical connection a priority.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
