The Democratic socialist, a longtime advocate of\u00a0decriminalizing sex work,\u00a0introduced\u00a0legislation allowing past and present prostitutes and other sex workers to easily receive taxpayer-funded assistance through nonprofits and other organizations. \u201cThe city has a responsibility to protect the health, safety, and economic well-being of all New Yorkers regardless of what they do for a living, and let\u2019s be clear: sex work is work,\u201d said Cab\u00e1n.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Cab\u00e1n\u2019s bill would force the Mayor\u2019s Office of Equity to create a \u201csex-worker opportunity program\u201d so that government grants could be funneled to community groups that work directly with sex workers to provide \u201ceconomic support for mobility, health, housing, and social well-being.\u201d The bill also prohibits housing discrimination based on a person\u2019s current or former employment in sex work. It amends the city privacy laws to protect against disclosing a person\u2019s status as a sex worker. Reps for Mayor Eric Adams said he\u2019s reviewing the legislation, despite the conservative backlash.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Do you love sex workers?
