Director J.J. Abrams teased fans that there would be LGBTQ representation in the new\u00a0Star Wars\u00a0film. And fans finally got to see the same-sex relationship in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker during the film’s release. Two female members of the Resistance shared a kiss<\/a> in one celebration scene in the film \u2014 a first for the franchise’s 40-year history on the silver screen.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn the case of the LGBTQ community, it was important to me that people who go to see this movie feel that they’re being represented in the film,\u201d Abrams said. Many fans speculated that the same-sex sequence would be shared by Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac) and Finn (John Boyega), but Abrams quickly shot that idea down during an interview with\u00a0Variety<\/a>. LGBTQ folks are very pleased to see a same-sex relationship in a galaxy far, far away.<\/p>\n
