For most of my life I have held a fascination with trains. From the luxury trains with opulently decorated compartments, to the dependable commuter trains that carry us from one destination to another, to the freight trains that crisscross the land, trains have the ability to transport us to entirely new destinations and indeed transform a nation.

The interconnected horizontal and vertical lines that stretch out throughout the land as far as the eye can see….

And this is why I use the train as a metaphor for trance, as well as the mental, sexual and physical journeys we take throughout life.

For example there are times we may feel as though we’re stuck on a train, as though the train may never leave the station.

And at other times, the train departs with such speed that one can feel the force of inertia as it gains steam... back pressed deep into a comfy seat….eyes closed...ready to journey…

Perhaps we anxiously await the trains arrival...surely we shall be late for our destinations.

Or curiously looking out the widow as the landscape disappears behind us, only to see another come into focus as the train changes tracks...taking us in an entirely new direction.

The train and the tracks that facilitate travel, analogous to each individual journey…

Hence the reason I chose to use trains to illustrate our journey into the unconscious…
